Beijing Hyundai officially begun selling the newest version of the Elantra in China, xcar.com.cn reported earlier this week. The new Elantra, which is being sold under the Chinese name Langdong, is priced between 105,800 and 149,800 yuan ($16,731-$23,690). This newest Elantra will be sold in the country alongside the previous two generations.
The new Elantra's (pictured) exterior has once again been revamped, this time looking closer to the eighth generation Sonata, with smoother lines and a much less rigid shape overall. The car measures 4.57 m long, 1.77 m wide and 1.45 m tall, with its wheelbase measuring 2.7 m, slightly larger than the current Elantra sold overseas. However, its slightly shorter ride height may pose an inconvenience to taller drivers.
Looking from the inside, the new Elantra seems aimed at younger buyers, with a sporty two-tone interior design and several state-of-the-art accessories, including USB ports, DVD navigation system, LCD dashboard display and independent seat warmers. Higher-class versions come with electronic stability control, tire pressure control system, parking sensor and side airbags. The Elantra can also link up with Hyundai's Blue Link real-time communication system.
The Elantra is powered by either Hyundai's 1.6 Gamma engine or the newest 1.8 L Nu engine. The former sports Dual-Continuous Variable Valve Timing, outputting a maximum 128 hp and is able to produce up to 155.5 Nm of torque. Six-speed automatic and six-speed manual transmissions are available. The Nu-equipped Elantra boasts a 100 km fuel consumption rate of just 5.9 L.
